Dr Tho Chin Keong graduated with a medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1984. After serving as a Naval Diving Medical Officer for his national service he underwent basic specialist training in Singapore General Hospital from 1987 after which he qualified as a specialist by obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of London. Further advanced specialist training was done in the Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine of KK Women’s and Children Hospital from 1990 where he developed skills in ultrasound diagnosis in particular 3D/4D scans as well as antenatal diagnostic techniques. He was part of the team that pioneered a multidisciplinary approach in the care of women with fetal defects so as to achieve the best possible outcome.
Screening of Down’s Syndrome was one of Dr Tho’s interest and was involved in the early development of Triple Test as the first biochemical screening tool for it.
Dr Tho is passionate in the care of the fetus in labour, in particular, the interpretation of fetal heart rate patterns and had written a book chapter on it.
Dr Tho is keen to share his experience with others by teaching medical students and specialist in training. He had also given talks both to the public and the medical community.
In his spare time, he contributes back to the community by being a member and Chair of the Yuhua Healthcare Committee since 1994. Together with a team of volunteer doctors he promotes the health of the residents by conducting talks and free health screenings.
Dr Tho currently delivers and does surgery at Mt Elizabeth Novena, Mt Alvernia Hospital and Thomson Medical Centre.
